thrift finds.
I get 99.9% of my materials from thrift stores, yard sales, antique stores & flea markets. I prefer using these secondhand materials for many reasons:
- connection to the original owners of the item
- the uniqueness of a long forgotten material
- greenness of reusing something, rather than buying new
- I save $ on materials, so my artwork is affordably priced
Yesterday M and I went on a thrifting trek outside of Pittsburgh, and we found some great things. I picked up some kitschy floral fabrics, metal 6” embroidery hoops, a thread holder, and some lovely hand tinted 8x10 graduation photos. Oh, I also picked up a wonderful animal skull which I plan to clean up and put in my new studio.
